Becoming a foster/adoptive parent requires a bit of
time and patience. Prospective parents are required to complete
an application, a criminal background check, home and safety inspections,
CPR/First Aid Training, personal background interviews, and provide
references. In Washington state, the Department of Children and
Family Services (DCFS) licenses interested families. In addition,
they contract with more than 50 private agencies who can license
prospective parents. There are differences in areas of specialization,
fees, and services available. The agencies listed here responded
